Read what the database counts
The Japan Foundation’s Activate Your Japanese! content library provides a vocabulary database for Xuan Tackles Japan! Its description names fields including part of speech, an example, frequency of use in the show and the number of episodes containing the word. The phrase “in the show” defines the scope of the count.
A word that appears often in this drama may be useful for following its characters and recurring situations. That does not establish how frequently the word occurs across everyday Japanese, all television genres or every workplace. A programme corpus answers a programme-sized question.
Use frequency and spread together
For a viewing plan, distinguish repeated use in one episode from appearances across several episodes. A word concentrated in one storyline can have a high total count without being spread throughout the series. The separate episode field can help reveal that difference.
Choose a small set of words connected to the episode you intend to study and retain their examples. Check how each word functions in the scene instead of memorising a bare ranking. The published database can guide the choice, but it does not establish that all meanings of a word or all contexts of use are represented.
Match the resource to the recording
The library explains that its videos are split into segments for language-learning use, while directing viewers to NHK for the full broadcast version. Keep the segment and episode identifiers with the vocabulary note. A learning segment and a complete programme may package the same material differently.
The materials page also lists scripts separately from a macro-based script-search file. This guide draws on the publisher’s descriptions; no spreadsheet or macro was executed. The vocabulary task does not require assuming that a particular automation has run or that a device supports it.
After viewing, record which selected words you recognised in that episode and which still need context. Treat that as evidence about the session. It is not a general measure of proficiency or proof that the highest-ranked show words are the best learning priorities for every person. The database is most useful when its clearly stated limits shape a specific programme study plan.
