The 2026 slalom World Cup format did not always include a semi-final

Interpret a 2026 slalom result route without inventing a missing semi-final.

Saved marks, current questions

Keep the named event category in the route

The ICF’s 29 April 2026 pre-season document distinguishes ordinary World Cups, with a heat and twelve-athlete final, from the World Championships and World Cup Finals, which include a thirty-athlete semi-final before a twelve-athlete final. This is an edition-specific planning document.

Imagine reading a 2026 ordinary World Cup result showing a heat followed by a final. The absence of a semi-final row need not be a missing page. Compare a Worlds result from that named format, where the extra stage is part of the route.

A common sport does not guarantee an identical bracket

The event label Finals is material in this comparison, not just a dramatic name for any final race. Preserve the full event category before using a result-sheet template copied from another meeting.

For a simple route note, write heat to final for the ordinary Cup format in the document, and heat to semi-final to final for the two named exceptions. This original comparison explains result navigation, not any athlete’s actual qualification. Later amendments and future seasons require their own current rules; the April document should not be silently promoted into an unqualified permanent format.
