Review captions against the final lower third

Catch a caption that covers a name, demonstration detail or other essential picture information in an owned release.

Europe. In the picture.

Review the composite

A caption approved over a clean edit can cover information added later as a lower third. Review the final picture, captions and graphics together. A caption file cannot know which essential detail the graphics team placed beneath its default position.

For an invented interview, a name graphic appears during a two-line cue. Record the cue identity, graphic interval and obstructed information. This gives the editor a concrete collision to resolve rather than a general instruction to move every caption upward.

Choose the change that fits the scene

Possible production changes include moving or shortening the graphic, changing its timing, or adjusting the caption's supported placement. The choice should preserve reading time and the relevant picture. Do not solve the collision by deleting necessary words without editorial review.

WebVTT provides positioning mechanisms, but W3C WAI warns that presentation support varies. Check the intended delivery presentation instead of assuming the authoring preview establishes every browser or device result. The WebVTT source consulted is the 20 May 2026 Candidate Recommendation Draft.

Recheck the difficult scale

Review the composite at the smallest intended presentation as well as the editing monitor. A relocated cue can collide with a face or become harder to follow when the picture shrinks. Keep the relevant screenshot or review artifact tied to the final generation.

Add this collision to the release checklist when graphics or translated captions change. A longer translation can wrap differently even when its timing stays unchanged. These are proposed checks, without an actual player-rendering result.

Questions answered

Should every lower-third collision be fixed by moving captions?

No. Review graphic timing, placement and caption presentation together.

Does a correct position setting guarantee identical display everywhere?

No. Verify the target presentation and retain the scope of that review.
