Keep the media endpoint unchanged
If a new custom input appears to open another channel, preserve its original endpoint and label. First inspect the source’s identity fields and the existing lineup. Changing the URL immediately can destroy the useful evidence that the imported item itself may have collided with another entry.
Compare numbers across sources
Channels warns that a custom channel number already used by another source can merge with it and select the prioritized channel. Its custom format also requires a unique channel-id. Inspect those fields independently; a friendly display name does not guarantee unique identity.
For an original inventory exercise, list the new source and any existing row with the same displayed number. Choose a deliberate non-conflicting number for the small authorized input, retaining its stable identifier and original stream information.
Verify identity before judging playback
Inspect the channel label and recognizable content after the change. Then verify picture and sound as their own result. If identity remains wrong, keep the source and priority context in the report rather than cycling through unrelated media addresses.
No custom source was imported here. The procedure addresses a specific documented merge rule, not arbitrary account or stream compatibility.
Questions answered
Is a unique display name enough?
No. Inspect the actual channel-id and number fields.
Does correcting the number prove the stream is playable?
