Court-circuit: read three perspectives on time in an experimental short

Use the producer’s premise and ARTE companion to follow cosmic, human and plant perspectives without treating a poetic title as a measurement.

Read the premise at three scales

Miyu’s synopsis for Dix puissance moins quarante-trois seconde places cosmic, human and plant perspectives on time beside one another and describes their gradual merging. The producer identifies a combination of digital animation and live action. Those descriptions provide a specific starting question for watching the experimental short: how does it make different experiences of duration meet?

Use the premise as a question, not a list of scenes to invent in advance. The film’s title and synopsis do not supply a numerical method for converting a person’s time into a plant’s or the universe’s. Its artistic comparison can be explored without claiming a scientific measurement.

Follow a change before explaining it

During a viewing, choose a transition that changes your sense of scale or pace. Describe the visible or audible change first. Then explain which perspective it seems to bring closer. If the connection remains ambiguous, preserve that ambiguity rather than assigning an unsupported physical meaning.

Compare two passages by their rhythm, movement or relationship between image and sound. A sequence can feel brief or prolonged even though the player measures both in ordinary running time. Keep the formal observation separate from an interpretation about what the experience means.

Use the production material for a defined question

ARTE lists a separate seven-minute Court-circuit making-of following Francis and composer Pali Meursault. It can supply production context for the film; its duration is not the duration of the short. The festival record identifies the finished film as without dialogue or commentary, which also helps distinguish these two audiovisual objects.

If studying the soundtrack, use a specific production explanation when the companion provides it, and attribute that explanation. Do not assume that every image-sound relationship you notice was described by a creator. Your response to the work and the production account can remain different kinds of evidence.

Finish with one comparison the film made you consider: which perspective changed, what in the audiovisual form supported that reading and what remains unresolved. This is a proposed close-viewing method based on published descriptions, not a report of playback or a claim to have inspected every technique. Retain separate records for the film and its companion when locating the current editions.

Questions answered

Does the poetic title establish a physical measurement of the film’s running time?

No. Read its artistic premise separately from the programme’s listed duration.

Is ARTE’s seven-minute making-of the finished experimental short?

No. The making-of is a separate production item about the work.
