Read what the profile describes
TV5MONDE’s Dictée d’Archibald FAQ separates profiles for people who already command French from difficulty choices for learners of French. Junior and Senior appear within that dictation context. Do not infer a protected children’s account, a school year or an official language qualification from one of those labels.
Choose according to the listening and writing task you want to attempt. Someone comfortable understanding French may still want a demanding spelling exercise; someone learning the language may need a more manageable text. Those are different reasons for choosing a profile, and neither is settled by age alone.
Use the review before requesting correction
The FAQ provides an opportunity to reread the attempt before correction. Use that stage for a deliberate check of what you wrote, rather than changing every uncertain word at random. Look for a missing word, an ending you intended to include or punctuation that affects the sentence.
Keep the original uncertainty in mind. Did you fail to identify a word in the audio, hear the word but not know its spelling, or recognise the phrase while being unsure of an agreement? Each case suggests a different thing to practise. The corrected text alone cannot tell you which process produced your answer.
Turn the result into a narrow practice task
After correction, choose one recurring feature instead of treating every marked difference as the same problem. If several errors concern a written ending, review that pattern in its sentence context. If a word was genuinely unfamiliar, keep its meaning and the surrounding phrase with it. Avoid assuming that a spelling mark proves the audio was unintelligible.
For a repeat attempt, decide what you are checking. Hearing the passage again after seeing its corrected text is a useful study step, but it is no longer the same unfamiliar listening task as the first attempt. Retain that difference when comparing your own results.
The exercise can help organise study; its profile and correction do not establish an externally assessed level. A useful note says which dictation you attempted and which feature you will review next. That gives the next session a purpose without turning one web exercise into a broad verdict on someone’s French.
Questions answered
Does Junior establish that this is a child-restricted viewing profile?
No. Read it within the dictation FAQ’s challenge-profile explanation; the label does not verify account access controls.
Does every correction mean I failed to hear the word?
No. A difference may concern spelling, agreement, punctuation or an unfamiliar word; review the actual cause.
