Playback evidence workshop

A successful link check may still leave the playback task untested

Ask what a reported HEAD check exercised and preserve the programme failure that occurs later in the actual viewing route.

Ask what was actually checked

Support may report that a media link responds successfully. If the check used HTTP HEAD, it obtained response metadata without transferring the representation body. That is a useful bounded result, but it did not download and decode the complete programme. It cannot replace the viewer's report that playback starts and later fails.

The request method also explains a success response with no media body. HEAD is intentionally bodyless. Do not describe that diagnostic alone as an empty or corrupt video file. Keep the method, status and resource role together when interpreting a report. A number such as 200 has meaning in the context of the action that produced it.

A hypothetical later-position failure

Suppose an authorised recording begins normally but stops at a repeatable interior position. A metadata check for its documented test route succeeds. Both observations can be true. The viewer should preserve the programme, position, date, player and visible error rather than abandoning the report because a narrower link check passed.

Ask whether support tested startup, the failing position and the required audio or caption selection. These are ordinary viewing tasks, not demands for a particular monitoring product. The answer helps identify the next stage to inspect and keeps a general healthy message from obscuring a specific reproducible obstacle.

Do not run unfamiliar copied commands against private media or post a signed address publicly to prove the point. The normal authorised player action is the baseline. If support needs technical evidence, use its verified private procedure and keep access tokens out of screenshots and public discussions.

Validate the same viewing task

After a reported correction, start through the normal player and cross the formerly failing position. Check picture, sound and any required captions. Merely repeating the metadata check does not exercise that task. A different error or a new failing position should be recorded separately.

The useful conclusion states what each observation supports: metadata responded, startup worked, and the named playback passage succeeded or failed. That sequence helps support investigate the right boundary. It avoids both mistaking an expected HEAD response for corruption and treating a successful narrow check as proof of uninterrupted viewing.

Questions answered

Should a HEAD response contain the video bytes?

No. HEAD is intended to return response metadata without the representation body.

Does HEAD returning 200 prove the video plays completely?

No. Actual authorised transfer and playback need their own checks at the depth required by the task.
