Inspect the directory first
For --audio-file-auto, no disables discovery, exact matches the video's basename with an audio extension, fuzzy admits names containing that basename, and all considers audio throughout the relevant search directories. Before enabling one, list the audio files beside the video. A directory containing final narration, rehearsal takes and unrelated tracks needs more deliberate selection than a clean one-file pair.
Use one near-match revision
For an owned production, compare the intended narration with an older revision whose name is similar. Choose explicit loading or the narrowest documented convention that meets the task. A broader mode is convenient only when the extra files it can discover are understood.
After loading, inspect the track list and selected audio. A file being present does not prove it is the one heard. Record the actual track identity instead of relying on a fixed track number that can change with the input set.
Retain the naming policy
Keep the accepted video/audio revision pair and the discovery setting in the review notes. Recheck it after moving files or adding another narration take. This prevents a previously tidy folder from silently becoming an ambiguous source of tracks.
Questions answered
Does the broadest discovery mode ensure the best narration choice?
No. It can discover additional files without establishing which revision is correct.
Should I assume the same numeric track position in every file?
No. Inspect the available and selected track identities.
