Read the condition as executable configuration
mpv's developer documentation describes conditional profile expressions as Lua code that is not sandboxed. A profile copied from an unknown source is therefore more than a passive list of picture preferences. Review who supplied it and what it evaluates before placing it in your configuration.
Prefer an explainable condition
Keep a copy outside the active configuration while inspecting it. State the desired condition in ordinary words and compare the expression with that requirement. Check how it handles a property that is absent; the documented evaluation behaviour matters when a different media type is opened.
For a small personal workflow, a manually selected named profile may be easier to review than automatic logic you cannot explain. Do not import a broad configuration merely because a screenshot suggests it will improve a particular display.
Record the boundary and version
Keep the installed version, source of the configuration and the exact files reviewed. If you conduct a local check, use a disposable owned-media sample and preserve the baseline. Revisit automatic conditions after a major update instead of assuming their dependencies never change.
Questions answered
Is a conditional profile only static data?
No. The documented condition is evaluated as unsandboxed Lua code.
Does a plausible profile name establish trust?
No. Inspect the actual configuration and its provenance.
