A netball centre-pass correction needs an on-court appeal before the pass

Explain the timing and permitted source of a netball centre-pass appeal.

Saved marks, current questions

The next pass has a correction boundary

World Netball’s centre-pass resource allows an on-court player to appeal an incorrectly signalled direction before the pass is taken. The umpires check the scorers’ record. Once the pass has been taken, that error cannot be rectified through this procedure.

Two teams notice the same apparent alternation error. In one sequence an on-court player speaks before the restart; in the other the bench complains after the ball has been passed. The timing and source of the appeal are different.

Alternation is a record, not a reward for scoring

The centre pass alternates, so the identity of the team that just scored is not by itself a complete record of whose pass comes next. Track the previous centre pass rather than assigning it automatically to the conceding side.

This helps explain an umpire consulting the scorers despite players already standing ready. A scorecard check can settle the sequence more reliably than a viewer’s memory of the last goal. The original comparison isolates the appeal window; it does not suggest a coach can substitute a bench protest for the required on-court request.

Questions answered

Can the bench make this appeal instead of an on-court player?
