Name the moment that starts playing
A preview beginning while you browse and another episode starting after the credits are different events. Netflix documents separate profile switches for them. Decide which moment you want to change before entering settings. For example, someone may want silent browsing while still allowing a series to continue, whereas another viewer may enjoy previews but prefer to stop after one episode. There is no need to make both preferences identical. A useful first observation is whether the unexpected playback began on a title-browsing screen or after you had already watched an episode.
Edit the intended profile rather than guessing from another one
Netflix’s current browser instructions are Account, Profiles, the chosen profile, then Playback settings. The relevant options are Autoplay previews and Autoplay Next Episode. On supported mobile apps, the route is My Netflix, the profile name, Manage Profiles and the profile you intend to edit, with Done on iPhone or iPad. Check the profile name before changing either switch. A family member using a different profile is not a reliable comparison for the setting you just changed. Netflix says preferences update automatically, but the device may need refreshing to pick them up.
Check the device and connection before calling the setting broken
The publisher identifies limits that can explain different results. iPads and some older televisions or streaming devices do not support preview autoplay. For the next episode, Netflix’s mobile troubleshooting says automatic continuation does not operate on a mobile network, to avoid unexpected data use. It also identifies video cables or adapters connecting a mobile device to a television as an unsupported route for this feature. Those are specific viewing conditions. An enabled profile preference does not remove them, and repeatedly switching the same preference off and on cannot establish that an unsupported route should work.
Verify each preference with its own short check
After changing previews, return to browsing on the same supported device and profile and observe the title-selection screen. After changing episode continuation, test the end of an episode in the relevant viewing conditions. Keep these observations separate so a successful browsing change is not mistaken for a failed episode setting. If automatic continuation is still unexpected, record the selected profile, connection type and whether a cable or adapter is involved. If it is missing, establish that another episode actually exists before deeper troubleshooting. This small comparison explains the behavior more clearly than a general complaint that Netflix autoplay is on or off.
Questions answered
Can I turn previews off while leaving next-episode autoplay on?
Yes. Netflix documents separate profile controls for these two behaviors.
Does an enabled next-episode preference guarantee mobile-network continuation?
No. Netflix’s mobile troubleshooting says it does not automatically play the next episode over a mobile network.
