OBS clip starts again after a scene change: inspect activation policy

Explain a clip that restarts when returning to an OBS scene before replacing or re-exporting the media.

A player organises the experience

Keep one recognizable clip

Use the same owned clip and note a visual moment well after its opening. If it plays normally while the scene stays active but returns to the first frame after leaving and coming back, preserve that distinction. The file is being read successfully in at least one state.

Compare the configured restart choice

OBS Media Source has a restart-on-activation option. Inspect it before changing the file. Write the intended outcome first: restart is appropriate for a repeated introduction, while continuation may serve a different presentation. There is no single correct choice for both uses.

Return once before the clip ends and again after a complete run. Keep the rest of the scene unchanged. These two transitions distinguish an activation policy from an end-of-file state and provide a reproducible case for the operator.

Verify the presentation cue

Accept the setting only when the ordinary cue behaves as intended. A useful observation identifies the departure point, return action and first image after return. If the result remains inconsistent, retain those details with the source name and OBS version rather than rebuilding every scene.

This comparison was not performed here. It is a focused rehearsal for authorized local media, and it does not establish whether another capture or streaming application handles activation the same way.

Questions answered

Is a restart always a playback fault?

No. It can be the selected behavior for a source becoming active.

Should I compare only after the clip finishes?

Compare both an early return and a return after completion; they exercise different states.
