Choose the network rule before adding the queue
PBS KIDS Video’s help says downloads use the mobile device’s current connection by default. The Grownups settings offer Use Wifi Only, with an adult-verified option for allowing cellular data. Begin by choosing the intended setting on the actual travel device before starting a large queue. A home Wi-Fi icon at one moment does not prove the app will never use another connection later. A hypothetical caregiver preparing a tablet should align the application choice with the household’s network plan, rather than assume every download button automatically implies Wi-Fi-only use.
Enter Downloads for the selected show
The official workflow begins in the shows menu and switches the selected show from Watch Now to Downloads. Eligible videos then display a download arrow. Use that actual selection rather than assuming a programme playing through Watch Now is already saved locally. Inspect the desired episode title and distinguish a full episode from a shorter clip. Keep the preparation manageable: choose the few items the child is likely to want rather than tap through an entire collection while uncertain about storage or available network time. The presence of a show in the app does not by itself mean every item supports downloading.
Read the progress states correctly
PBS explains that the currently downloading video shows a circular loading indicator, while other queued items have a different curved-arrow state. A completed video changes its presentation and provides a completion cue. Check each intended item rather than treating the first active circle as evidence that the whole queue is ready. In an original journey checklist, separate queued, downloading and completed into three statuses. This avoids promising several episodes when only one has finished. The method is based on the published interface description, not a claim that we tested the current application on a particular tablet.
Keep completed copies and expiry in the final check
Before leaving reliable internet access, open the Downloads area and inspect the intended completed items and any expiry notice. The help says an episode becoming unavailable in the app cannot be watched merely because it was downloaded earlier. Be careful with the removal control: deleted media cannot be downloaded again while offline. Keep the final check narrow enough to preserve the prepared queue. If a problem remains, note the show, episode, progress state and network setting for support. The result is a realistic offline plan built from confirmed copies, rather than a list of programmes that were only added to a queue.
Questions answered
Does a curved queued-download arrow mean the episode is already saved?
No. PBS distinguishes queued items from the active download and the completed state.
Where does PBS describe Wi-Fi-only downloads?
In the PBS KIDS Video app’s Grownups settings, through Use Wifi Only; consult the current network options on the actual device.
