Read an archived Stand.nl vote with its population limit

Keep a self-selected audience response in context when an old programme poll is shared as a national opinion result.

Retain the programme’s warning with the number

In an October 2025 statement, Spraakmakers on NPO Radio 1 explained that its former Stand.nl poll was not representative of opinion across the Netherlands. It also said the poll had been removed from 18 September 2025 after repeated use without the necessary context. This is a case about interpreting an archived result, not an invitation to find and vote in that old poll.

If a screenshot of a result is shared, look for the exact question and the description of who responded. A percentage can be mathematically clear while the population it describes remains narrow. Changing “people who chose to respond” into “the Netherlands” adds a claim the programme explicitly rejected.

Ask how people arrived at the poll

The broadcaster noted that supporters or opponents could circulate a proposition to their own groups, changing the mix of respondents. That is a reason to examine recruitment rather than assuming a large response automatically represents everyone. A count alone does not establish how participants relate to the wider population.

Keep the result’s wording intact as well. A response to one proposition should not be silently rewritten as agreement with a different proposition. Two statements that sound related can ask about different actions, reasons or conditions. Read the question before explaining what a vote means.

Use the result for the question it can answer

An audience prompt can help a radio programme begin a conversation or reveal arguments listeners want to discuss. That purpose differs from estimating a country’s opinion through a documented population survey. A lively discussion and a representative estimate are separate outcomes.

When referring to the old poll, describe it as a response among its participants and retain the date and limitation. If the available screenshot omits the question or context, say what is missing instead of reconstructing it from memory. Avoid calculating a national headcount from the displayed share.

The withdrawal is itself part of the record. A viewer encountering an old result in 2026 should not assume the programme still publishes that poll in the same form. The useful lesson is to keep question, recruitment, population and publication date together whenever a broadcaster’s audience response is used as evidence.

Questions answered

Does a large response make a self-selected audience vote nationally representative?

The response count alone does not establish that. The programme expressly said its former poll was not representative of the Netherlands.

Is this a guide to a currently operating Stand.nl poll?

No. It discusses the broadcaster’s dated statement that the poll was removed in September 2025.
