Decide who may spend before adding a paid title
U-NEXT’s point-history help says the main account and subaccounts share points. A family member seeing a points balance is therefore not evidence of a separate personal allowance. The service provides purchase restrictions for ordinary subaccounts, including paid works and cinema tickets. Begin with the household’s intended permission: no purchases, spending only existing points, or unrestricted purchasing. These choices concern transactions. They are separate from the family account’s simultaneous-playback rules and from whether a film is already part of the unlimited-viewing selection. Do not try to resolve a purchasing restriction by repeatedly opening the same paid title on another television.
Use the main account to edit the intended subaccount
The publisher requires the main account for these controls. Open Account and contract, then the family-account editing area and Settings beside the account you intend to change. The current Japanese instructions identify the section for paid-work and cinema-ticket purchase restrictions. Select the intended option and choose Update. If the management area is absent, first check whether you signed in as a subaccount; U-NEXT specifically says main-account-only functions do not appear there. Confirm the target account name before saving so one family member’s restriction is not changed while investigating another person’s purchase question.
Understand the points-only middle option
Allowing existing points is a different permission from preventing purchases. It can permit use of the shared balance, so it should not be described to a family as no spending. Conversely, an unrestricted setting should not be chosen merely because somebody cannot open a separately charged work. U-NEXT’s short help for a subaccount unable to watch a points title directs that person to the main-account user when purchase restrictions apply. Discuss the intended transaction with that account holder. A restriction can be working correctly, rather than representing a failed subscription or a reason to create another paid account.
Check the account history and keep Kids mode separate
The main account can inspect the website’s Points, then Point history route to understand point use. Use that record privately when reconciling a transaction with the household’s permission choice. U-NEXT also provides separate Kids-mode controls, including whether paid titles are displayed and a parental confirmation at purchase. Do not assume the ordinary-subaccount menu is an identical set of child controls. The practical sequence is to identify the account type, choose the intended permission, save it and review the relevant history if needed. The following comparison describes the ordinary-subaccount options; it is not an instruction to relax a child’s safeguards.
| Ordinary-subaccount choice | What to understand before choosing it |
|---|---|
| Prevent purchases | The restrictive purchase option; review the intended account. |
| Existing points only | Allows use of the shared points balance. |
| Unrestricted purchases | Broader purchasing permission; not a playback troubleshooting switch. |
Questions answered
Does points-only mean the subaccount cannot spend anything?
No. It permits use of existing points, which U-NEXT says are shared between main and subaccounts.
Who changes the subaccount’s purchase restriction?
U-NEXT requires the main account to make that change in the family-account settings.
