After Viki Learn Mode: use the current web playback tools deliberately

Separate the retired language-learning feature from available browser speed and rewind controls without expecting a television setting.

Set aside instructions for the retired feature

Viki’s Learn Mode discontinuation notice says the feature was removed on 31 July 2023 from the website and app. An old tutorial showing its language-learning interface is therefore not a current setup guide. Reinstalling the application or searching another profile does not follow a documented recovery route for that retired feature. Start instead with the actual learning task: repeat a short scene, hear a phrase more slowly or read an offered subtitle. These can be organised using current controls without claiming that the old feature has returned or that a subscription restores it.

Choose the browser for the speed-control task

Viki’s current Playback Speed help identifies supported desktop and mobile browsers on Viki.com. It explicitly excludes the mobile apps and television devices from that feature at present. On the website, start the video, open the controls, select Playback Speed and choose an offered speed. A learner who cannot find that button on the television should compare the documented viewing surface before troubleshooting the account. The current instructions do not provide a numerical list of speeds in their text, so use the options actually offered rather than a remembered screenshot from another service.

Repeat a short passage with the documented keys

Viki’s August 2026 accessibility statement lists Spacebar for play or pause and the left and right arrows for ten-second rewind or forward on the web. A hypothetical practice session can use those controls to replay a brief passage, then pause to write a personal note. Keep the episode and approximate timestamp with the phrase so it can be checked in context later. This is a manual study method, not a claim of a built-in dictionary or dual-language teaching overlay. Use the actual available subtitle track and distinguish the translation from your own interpretation of what was said.

Check the speed again when changing titles

The speed help says the chosen setting continues through the current viewing session, including autoplay to the next episode, but resets to the default 1x when a different title begins. That distinction helps explain why a slow practice setting may persist across episodes yet disappear on another series. Confirm the displayed speed before a comparison instead of treating the changed pace as an audio fault. If the control itself fails on a supported browser, Viki recommends leaving and reopening the video before trying again. Keep a retired Learn Mode screen, an unavailable TV control and a reset speed preference as three separate questions.

Questions answered

Can I restore Viki Learn Mode by reinstalling?

The official notice says it was discontinued on 31 July 2023; it does not provide a reinstall restoration route.

Does Viki’s current playback-speed control work in the television app?

The current help limits it to supported desktop and mobile web browsers, and says mobile apps and TV devices do not currently offer it.
