Choose a recognisable forward cue
For an owned equirectangular scene, record which subject should appear when the video opens. Then note a side cue and a rear cue. VLC's documented 360 controls let the viewer navigate, but their availability does not establish the intended production orientation.
Test movement independently
Open the sample in the scoped desktop version and use the documented look-around controls. If the viewer can reach the expected subject, record that separately from whether it appeared initially. Do not stretch the picture or crop away part of the source to simulate a heading correction.
Keep the export settings and original file available. An initial-direction issue may need review in the production workflow; navigating to a subject during playback is not the same as permanently reorienting the video.
Write a useful handover note
State the projection, intended forward cue, actual starting view if checked locally, and the player version. No scene was tested for this article. This small record helps a producer investigate orientation without a vague report that 360 playback is broken.
Questions answered
Does reaching the subject prove the starting orientation is correct?
No. Navigation and the initial viewport are separate observations.
Will dragging the view create a permanently corrected export?
No. Treat it as playback navigation, not source editing.
