VLC Android sleep timer: verify playback stops without inferring device shutdown

Use the audio player’s timer on a short sample and check the resulting application state.

Identify the player before signing in

Define the intended stopping behavior

A playback sleep timer concerns the player’s media session. Decide whether you want audio to stop after a period or the whole device to change power state. Do not treat those as equivalent requirements. Keep any device-wide power automation separate from the player task.

Use a short authorized audio sample and a modest volume. Begin while you can still inspect the controls, rather than relying on the first unattended overnight session. Keep the exact app build and Android device in the notes if the behavior needs support.

Use the documented audio-player timer

VideoLAN’s Android Audio Player page lists Sleep timer in its additional options. Open the actual audio player from the playing strip or available interface, locate the timer and inspect the selected duration. Use the installed build’s controls rather than an old screenshot’s icon location.

Record whether a timer was already active before changing it. An earlier session’s state can explain why playback ends unexpectedly. Keep the timer choice separate from repeat and playlist continuation settings so the observed stop has a clear intended trigger.

Observe one complete timer test

Let the known sample continue through the chosen short interval and note when it stops. Keep the source and queue unchanged. A network interruption before the interval ends is a different event and should not be counted as proof the timer worked.

Inspect whether playback stopped, the notification remained or the application closed as reported by the actual build. Record only what was observed. The documentation’s timer feature does not justify claiming the operating system powered off or every background process ended.

Clear temporary state before normal use

After the test, set the timer to the intended everyday state and confirm ordinary playback can be started and stopped. Keep the result in the device notes if another person uses the same application. A forgotten short test timer can make the next session look unstable.

The expected outcome is understood timed playback behavior. It does not guarantee sleep quality, device shutdown or uninterrupted source availability. If the timer behaves differently from the installed build’s controls, preserve the duration, source type and actual ending state for a narrow report.

Questions answered

Does the player timer prove the phone will shut down?

No. Assess playback stopping and device power as separate requirements.

Why clear the test timer afterward?

A retained short interval can explain a later unexpected stop. Leave the application in its intended ordinary state.
