Choose the points you need to revisit
VLC’s bookmark feature can help locate a particular place in an audio or video file. Start with a defined review task on media you control: for example, revisiting the slide transition at 03:12 in your own presentation and the explanation at 08:40. Write those original example times in a separate note so the intended passages remain clear.
Keep the source file and its duration unchanged. A bookmark for one edit can point to the wrong scene after the video is trimmed or replaced. Also distinguish a playback bookmark from a permanent edit marker embedded in the media; they are not automatically the same artifact.
Create the bookmark through the documented desktop controls
VideoLAN’s desktop 3.0 playback guide describes Playback, Custom Bookmarks and Manage, followed by Create at the intended position. Use that route where it matches the installed desktop interface. Pause or position the media carefully before creating the entry and inspect the resulting bookmark list.
Create one reference first and immediately return to it through the current menu. This proves the basic navigation action before you add a long list. If the selected point is wrong, correct the small test rather than assuming every bookmark will be offset by the same amount.
Verify any persistence you intend to rely on
If you need the review points after closing the session, test the current application’s documented save and reopening workflow explicitly. The playback page establishes bookmark creation and selection; it is not sufficient evidence that an unsaved session will preserve every review point forever. Retain the separate timecoded note as your durable reference.
The expected outcome is convenient navigation during the actual review and a clear record of any required long-term notes. Do not replace a formal edit-decision document or source backup with an untested player state. Bookmarks do not alter the video, create chapters in the file or supply access to a media source that is no longer reachable.
Questions answered
Does creating a VLC bookmark edit the video file?
Treat the player navigation marker and an embedded media edit as different artifacts. Verify any exported or persistent result separately.
How should I keep review points I cannot afford to lose?
Retain an independent timecoded note with the source identity, and test the current save-and-reopen workflow before relying on player state alone.
