Winning the match and earning three points differ
The 2026 World Cup additional rules award three table points for a regulation win, two for a shoot-out win, one for a shoot-out loss and none for a regulation loss. A win/loss column alone therefore does not reconstruct the group’s points.
Team A wins two matches after shoot-outs and loses one in regulation: four points. Team B wins once in regulation, loses once after a shoot-out and loses once in regulation: also four. Two wins and one win can lead to the same points total.
Keep the match outcome type
Record regulation or shoot-out beside each result before summing the table. The shoot-out winner still won that match; the table simply assigns a different amount to that outcome.
The calculation is original and uses only the stated 2026 points scale. It does not decide a tie on four points, which needs the applicable ranking procedure. Nor does it assume every water polo competition uses this exact scale. The useful distinction is between the binary match result and the richer points record that the named World Cup table required.
Questions answered
Does every win in this 2026 scale add three?
No. A shoot-out win adds two.
Does the example decide which four-point team ranks higher?
No. It establishes only their equal points total.
