Channel identity

ABC NEWS and a state’s evening bulletin are different requests
ABC’s own help distinguishes the continuous ABC NEWS channel from the evening news on ABC TV. The national news channel carries its own programmes, while the local evening bulletin belongs to the appropriate state or territory variation of ABC TV. A broad ABC News search can therefore return more than one correct type of item.
Keep the state with a local request. A national programme mentioning Western Australia is not automatically the complete WA bulletin. Likewise, a local story from another state can legitimately appear on the national channel without indicating that the household’s regional television service has changed.
Use the state-based ABC TV stream for the scheduled local bulletin
The ABC live-stream help lists state and territory variations of ABC TV and explains that the viewer should select the relevant one for local news at its scheduled time. Its separate ABC NEWS stream provides national coverage. Changing a phone’s location label cannot substitute for selecting the intended television stream.
The distinction is visible in the official Watch ABC Live From Across Australia collection, which labels the state and territory streams individually. Save the full label in a household note. The correct national broadcaster can still be the wrong programme route when the specific requirement is a local evening edition.
The completed bulletin has a dated programme entry
ABC’s catch-up guidance says to search for ABC followed by the state or territory and select the relevant dated news bulletin. It describes publication after the original television transmission rather than a simultaneous replay appearing at the same instant. A short wait for the completed item is different from selecting another live state feed.
Check the date on the bulletin page before opening the newest result. A weekend edition, earlier recording or individual report can be a different item from the broadcast the viewer missed. Preserve the complete state label and duration when comparing a full bulletin with an extracted news clip.
The receiving location and medium still matter
ABC’s live-stream help describes iview live access within Australia and notes that some television content may have different online rights. A domestic channel listing is therefore not proof of access abroad or identical online coverage of every segment. Use the current official conditions for the selected item and location.
ABC NewsRadio and the ABC NEWS website are further separate publication routes. An audio discussion or written story should not be saved as the complete television programme. For a viewing enquiry, record ABC TV and state or ABC NEWS national, the bulletin or programme, date and live or recorded format.
