ST and AD add different kinds of information
Česká televize describes ST hidden subtitles as representing speech and important sounds. Audiopopis adds spoken explanation of visual information. Start with the feature the viewer needs, then find a programme that offers it. The two access forms should not be treated as interchangeable Czech-language options.
For example, text identifying an offscreen sound can matter when the programme is watched without usable audio. A spoken explanation of a silent action serves a different need. These examples help define the task; they do not establish which adaptations are available on a particular episode.
Filter first, then check the selected recording
ČT provides a route to filter programmes with hidden subtitles. Use that discovery aid before committing to a title when captions are essential. Open the exact episode and inspect its offered options. A programme grouping can include different editions, excerpts or recordings with different access arrangements.
Compare the stated episode and date with the item you intended. A full current-affairs discussion and an individual interview clip may be close together in results. Both can have useful text, but they are different amounts of programme context. Choose the item that completes the viewing purpose.
The web player has separate subtitle and audio choices
The official help documents subtitles under the gear menu and the C keyboard shortcut on the web. For description, it identifies the audio-track choice Pro nevidomé and the A shortcut. Mobile application guidance also includes settings that prefer an available feature. A preference cannot supply a track the selected item does not contain.
When comparing access versions, keep playback at the same passage and change one feature at a time. If both captions and description are required, establish each independently before combining the arrangement. This makes an unclear result easier to understand.
Prepare the route for the person who will watch
Use the actual device to inspect control names and readability. A laptop shortcut is useful on the web but does not describe the sequence on every television remote. Save a direct programme link and the required access label so the next person does not choose an ordinary edition accidentally.
For a described programme, test a quiet visual passage. For captions, include both speech and a meaningful sound if the item contains one. The presence of a menu item is only part of the task; the chosen presentation needs to make the programme understandable to its viewer.
Questions answered
Does ST mean an extra spoken description track?
No. ČT uses it for hidden subtitles; audiopopis is the spoken visual description.
Can an always-prefer setting create missing captions?
No. It can select them only where the item offers them.
