NRK Tegnspråk: find the signed edition before starting

Choose NRK’s live sign-language channel or an available signed programme recording.

Signing is a programme version to select

NRK identifies NRK Tegnspråk as its dedicated sign-language television channel and also groups signed recordings in NRK TV. Start with that route when Norwegian Sign Language is the access need. Turning on ordinary subtitles is a different choice and does not add an interpreter to the picture.

For current live viewing, locate the sign-language channel in the actual service you use. For a specific missed programme, look for the signed recording of that edition. A programme title found in a general search may lead to the ordinary version, so inspect the selected result before settling in.

Match the complete programme

Keep the programme date and edition with the search. A signed excerpt from one news story may be useful, but it does not contain the rest of that day’s bulletin. Compare the result’s title and length with the programme you intended rather than relying on its thumbnail.

For a live event that begins before you arrive, decide whether joining the current transmission is acceptable or whether the beginning is essential. Do not assume a recording already exists while the event is still happening. If the programme is later published, compare the archived edition instead of expecting a continuously changing live page to preserve your place.

Inspect the picture the viewer will actually use

Play a brief section on the intended screen and check that the interpreter is fully visible. Television zoom, overscan or an unnecessarily cropped display mode can remove useful picture area. Use the complete frame before deciding that the signed version itself has a framing problem.

If captions are also enabled, check whether their placement interferes with any important part of the signed presentation. The appropriate arrangement is the one that remains readable to the viewer. Do not reduce the interpreter to a tiny picture merely to preserve the size of another part of the screen.

Prepare a direct route for the next session

Save the signed programme page or the correctly labelled live channel, rather than only the broadcaster homepage. If another person prepares the television, tell them the access edition as part of the programme request. This avoids an ordinary recording being selected because the title looks identical.

A short confirmation before the session is enough: correct date, signed version, complete visible interpreter and comfortable screen layout. These are practical viewing observations, not a certification of the broadcaster’s accessibility or of every distribution platform.
