ORF 2: regional editions and the separate Europe feed

Resolve a Bundesland selection before comparing ORF 2 with ORF 2 Europe or assuming a missing programme is a fault.

ORF 2 divides into state editions for local news

ORF’s live help explains that ORF 2 separates into nine state channels for Bundesland heute. The main online channel remains the Vienna edition unless another state is selected. A household wanting a different state can therefore have a working live player that is simply on the wrong regional choice.

Keep the Bundesland with the programme name. Changing the device’s general language or selecting an unrelated national news clip does not change that regional edition. Compare the observed state with the intended one before assuming the complete ORF 2 service is incorrectly configured.

The live player choice and saved account preference are distinct

The ORF help page describes changing state in the player and saving a preferred state in the ORF account’s regional-content setting. A one-off switch and a saved preference solve different tasks. A temporary comparison with another state should not be mistaken for proof that the household preference has been stored.

The same help identifies Südtirol heute through the Tirol selection. Keep that exact programme in an enquiry rather than asking only for a different Austrian bulletin. The relevant regional route can be less obvious when a viewer knows the programme’s place name but not which state feed supplies it.

ORF 2 Europe is a named international television service

ORF describes ORF 2 Europe as its freely receivable European satellite television offering. Its customer information identifies Austrian information, culture and other eligible productions. It is a separate reception choice, rather than a promise that every domestic ORF 2 programme appears internationally without interruption.

The Europe feed has its own programme information in ORF Teletext. A current listing can explicitly mark a slot without ORF2E rights. If that appears, compare the selected service and programme notice before retuning a receiver. A channel that correctly shows a rights-related programme notice is not necessarily suffering a signal failure.

Keep the receiving country and specific edition in the note

ORF’s October 2026 reception information distinguishes ORF 2 Europe from domestic activated devices and cards, and notes that not every online programme is offered outside Austria. An online account, a satellite feed and a domestic reception device are separate routes with their own published conditions.

A clear programme enquiry therefore names ORF 2 or ORF 2 Europe, the desired state where relevant, the programme, date and receiving country. If the concern is accessibility, check the selected listing’s subtitle or sign-language markers. A signed edition or a different regional transmission should be identified by that actual programme entry rather than inferred from the network logo.

A Tirol bulletin choice and an ORF 2 Europe reception choice should occupy separate fields in that note.

Questions answered

Does the default ORF 2 online feed automatically choose my Bundesland?

ORF says the main channel remains the Vienna edition; select and, if wanted, save the intended state.

Does ORF 2 Europe duplicate every domestic programme?

No. Its programme depends on the rights available for that European service; check its own listing.
