Rai 3: choose the intended regional TGR

Distinguish Rai 3’s antenna region from the internet-delivered TGR edition on supported hybrid televisions.

A Rai 3 label does not identify the regional bulletin

Rai 3 carries regional news editions, so an otherwise correct channel can show a different TGR from the one a household wants. Keep the region in the request: TGR Lombardia identifies a different news edition from another region’s TGR, even when the national Rai 3 programme around it looks the same.

Rai’s television guidance explains that a receiver may ask viewers to choose regional programming during tuning. This is a receiver choice about the edition assigned to the familiar channel position. It is separate from changing the television’s menu language, adding subtitles or finding a report about a particular town.

Check the antenna edition before retuning repeatedly

Rai’s current Televideo guidance describes regional alternatives in the 801–823 range on the relevant Italian terrestrial arrangement. Its Lombardia troubleshooting page gives channel 804 as the specific alternative for that edition. Those numbers belong to the described reception system, rather than every cable or internet provider’s channel list.

If a television or external decoder is using antenna reception, first record the existing Rai 3 region and check the applicable local receiver guidance. Repeatedly deleting a working favourite can make the original state harder to compare. An operator’s differently numbered service should be checked with that operator instead of forcing terrestrial numbering onto it.

Rai Tv+ can switch from the antenna to a streamed edition

Rai also documents its Regional Exchange Action service on internet-connected televisions supporting the specified HbbTV implementation. On Rai 3, the Rai Tv+ menu provides an edition change that moves from antenna signal to streaming signal, after which the viewer selects the intended regional TGR.

That source change matters when diagnosing a problem. The television can receive the national antenna programme while a selected regional stream depends on its internet connection and supported hybrid service. An older external decoder or disconnected television should not be assumed to expose the same menu or behave like the supported connected-TV route.

A TGR choice made in a streamed menu need not rewrite a separate external decoder’s saved terrestrial favourite.

Save the region, bulletin and receiving route together

Rai’s Lombardia guide names both the regional television news and Buongiorno Regione. Retain the programme title as well as the region and date when seeking a recording. A short TGR web report can concern the right location without containing the full bulletin or the morning programme.

A useful household note records Rai 3, the intended TGR, antenna or Rai Tv+ streaming, and the receiver used. Add the actual on-screen error if only the streamed edition fails. This gives support enough detail to distinguish a regional selection mismatch from an internet-delivery problem without assuming the national channel has disappeared.

Questions answered

Does changing the television menu to Italian select a TGR region?

No. The regional receiver or Rai Tv+ selection is a separate choice.

Does terrestrial channel 804 apply to every provider?

No. Rai cites it for the described Lombardia terrestrial route; another provider can use its own numbering.
