Plus 1 describes a delayed linear channel

Freeview’s current channel page describes TVNZ 1 Plus 1 as the TVNZ 1 programme delayed by one hour. The plus-one label is therefore a schedule relationship between two linear services. It is different from TVNZ+, the broadcaster’s streaming platform whose name also contains a plus sign.

Keep the full service name in a favourite or reminder. A viewer asking for TVNZ Plus may mean an account-based platform or the delayed television channel. Those choices do not become interchangeable because they share the broadcaster’s name, and opening the platform does not by itself select the delayed linear appointment.

The programme title can retain the original bulletin time

A delayed channel carries programmes identified by their original titles. For a bulletin or recurring programme whose name contains a time, preserve that title separately from the later Plus 1 airing. The programme name is not an instruction to change the receiving television’s clock.

In a hypothetical example, a programme aired at six on the original service appears one hour later on the delayed service. A reminder needs the channel actually chosen, not just the title remembered from the original channel. Keep the originating calendar date as well, particularly for programmes close to midnight.

The EPG recorder may prefer the original airing

Freeview’s recording help explains an alternate-instance mechanism: an EPG booking can recognize the Plus 1 programme as the same programme on the original channel and choose that earlier airing, unless a booked conflict changes the choice. The recording appearing on TVNZ 1 is therefore not necessarily evidence that the Plus 1 selection was ignored at random.

Check the actual booked channel, start time and conflicts before relying on the delayed slot. Freeview says a manual timer can be used when the delayed channel is specifically required, with the device manual supplying the steps. This is receiver guidance, rather than a guarantee that every streaming app offers a local recording timer.

Receiving routes and picture formats need their own check

Freeview lists TVNZ 1 through aerial, satellite and its streaming television app, while its Plus 1 page identifies over-the-air aerial and satellite reception. Use the current entry for the actual channel and route. A capability listed for the main channel should not automatically be extended to every delayed variant.

For a viewing enquiry, name TVNZ 1 or TVNZ 1 Plus 1, the programme, airing date and receiving equipment. For a recording concern, add the booked timer and any conflict. For a programme on TVNZ+, use its actual item instead. This separates the one-hour broadcast delay from a platform account, a recording preference and a device’s independent time setting.

Questions answered

Is TVNZ 1 Plus 1 the same service as TVNZ+?

No. Plus 1 is a delayed linear channel; TVNZ+ is the streaming platform.

Why might an EPG booking choose the original channel?

Freeview describes alternate-instance recording, which normally prefers the original airing unless a conflict changes the selection.
