The territories share a Western Australian television receiving context

Australia’s infrastructure department describes digital television from Western Australia on Christmas Island and satellite-delivered television on the Cocos (Keeling) Islands. The communications regulator’s retransmission list identifies sites on both territories. This supports a shared receiving guide, while the actual address and site still matter to reception.

A Western Australian source feed is different from a locally produced island television channel. Keep the broadcaster and selected programme when making a viewing enquiry. A territory label or receiving-site name does not identify every channel, programme language or on-demand catalogue carried by a separate internet service.

Local radio identities should remain attached to their island

The department identifies 6RCI on Christmas Island and 6CKI, Voice of the Cocos (Keeling) Islands, as the local radio context on Cocos. These are separate audio services. Their language or local-information roles should not be turned into alternative audio tracks on the imported television channels.

If a family wants a local interview or community announcement, retain the island and station as well as the title and date. A radio report about an event and a complete video transmission are different items. An English, Malay or Chinese radio description does not establish television subtitles or a matching video archive.

Retransmission, a private satellite service and online video differ

Official evidence to the Australian Parliament describes VAST-sourced local retransmission and separately installed private satellite services for additional language-specific programming. Keep the receiving arrangement in the enquiry. A local retransmission site and a privately subscribed dish do not establish the same channel list or terms.

The department also notes that weather can affect satellite reception. Use a current service notice and the exact receiving route when diagnosing a problem. A past weather-related outage is not proof of a present internet-account issue, and a functioning web article does not establish that a local broadcast signal is being received.

Christmas and Cocos use different originating clock identifiers

Use Indian/Christmas for a Christmas Island local-time appointment and Indian/Cocos for a Cocos (Keeling) Islands one. Retain the actual date and the programme’s stated time basis. A guide for the Western Australian source feed should not be silently assumed to display the same local clock as the receiving island.

For another television provider, name the actual broadcaster and programme, the receiving island or overseas location and whether live or recorded viewing is required. An Australian category or an Indian Ocean Territories flag cannot establish the local receiving setup, complete language-specific satellite selection or every programme’s online availability.

Questions answered

Does a Western Australian source feed mean the islands use the same local clock?

No. Keep the programme’s stated time basis and originating island, then convert for the actual date.

Are 6RCI and 6CKI television channels?

They are local radio identities. Keep the island, medium and programme together.
