Use Tonga Broadcasting Commission’s current identity
Tonga Broadcasting Commission’s current website is at tbc.to, with Tongan and English navigation. Retain Tonga in a request using the initials TBC, since the same letters can identify broadcasters elsewhere. A short acronym without its country or programme is an unreliable way to match a channel entry.
The website separates watch-live and listen-live routes. Choose the media type deliberately. A Radio Tonga stream is an audio service, so hearing sound without a television picture can simply mean that the radio route was selected. It should not automatically be diagnosed as a video failure.
The watch page can feature a named public event
The TBC watch-live page displays event information as well as a video archive. A ceremony, public occasion or special broadcast should retain its own title and date in your notes. The page title “Watch Live” does not establish that every video listed below it is happening at the moment you open it.
Check the player’s current state and the event description. An archive recording may be useful after a broadcast, but it is a different item from the continuous television schedule. A clip from an opening ceremony should also be distinguished from a complete recording of the event.
Tongan titles are useful programme identifiers
Preserve the original Tongan title and names when possible, including the characters used by the broadcaster. A loose English translation can describe the subject without identifying the exact report. Copying the official link alongside the title reduces ambiguity when discussing a programme with family or a television provider.
The English edition of a news website does not establish English audio for every television recording. Inspect the actual programme and any caption controls. If you need an English summary rather than a Tongan full broadcast, say so explicitly; those are different editorial and viewing requests.
Event dates matter for viewers across the Pacific
A family following from another country should retain the Tongan programme date before converting it. Use Pacific/Tongatapu if a calendar asks for the originating location. The Pacific contains nearby places on different calendar-day conventions, so a remembered time difference is a weak substitute for a date-specific conversion.
For another television service, give the full broadcaster name, programme or event and whether you need the live feed or a recording. Test the chosen item on your intended device. TBC’s public website establishes its published media routes; it does not by itself establish that an unrelated provider carries the same feed, the same archive or the full event outside Tonga.
Questions answered
Why does a TBC link have sound but no television picture?
Check whether you selected Listen Live for Radio Tonga. The website has separate audio and watch routes.
Does every item on the watch-live page describe a current event?
No. Read the event date and check whether the selected video is live or from the archive.
