Formatting is a storage decision
Formuler’s USB guide lists FAT32, NTFS and exFAT and provides a removable-format procedure. Formatting erases existing contents. Decide what the drive will hold and preserve important files elsewhere before accepting the operation.
A large advertised capacity does not resolve filesystem limits or establish that the current contents are backed up. Check the actual drive and copy, then open a few retained files from the backup location.
Identify the correct target
Formuler recommends disconnecting unrelated USB accessories before formatting. This reduces the chance of choosing another drive and makes the target easier to identify by name and capacity. Keep the storage you intend to preserve physically separate.
Follow the current model’s Home, Settings, storage route and the documented Erase and format as removable storage action. Read the confirmation for that specific device. Do not substitute an Android internal-storage operation when the guide calls for removable storage.
Wait for completion
The guide asks you to keep the drive connected while formatting and wait for its completion message. A progress bar appearing is not proof that the operation has finished. Avoid unplugging or beginning another storage change during that stage.
Afterwards, confirm the drive is recognized and test a small authorized local file if that is its intended job. Preparing storage does not establish permission to record a programme or prove that a particular app’s recording route is configured.
Choose a suitable filesystem for the task
FAT32 has an individual-file limit documented in Formuler’s guide. If large files matter, compare the supported alternatives and the computers that will read the drive. Do not treat spare total capacity as a solution to a per-file limit.
This page follows the current Formuler procedure and avoids unverified cross-platform driver claims. Retain the exact model and filesystem in any later support report.
Questions answered
Does formatting preserve the existing video files?
No. Back them up and verify the copy first.
Does enough free space remove FAT32’s individual-file limit?
No. Total free space and the maximum size of one file are different constraints.
