Choose a bounded cleanup
When a Chromecast with Google TV or Google TV Streamer runs low on storage, Google documents clearing cached data and uninstalling unused apps. Cache cleanup targets temporary data; it is a different decision from removing an app or its broader stored state.
Identify the specific task that lacks space, such as an update or installation. This gives the cleanup a useful endpoint. Repeatedly deleting everything is not a maintenance plan and makes account or preference recovery harder to understand.
Use the cache control
Google’s documented route is Settings, System, Storage, Internal shared storage, Cached data, then confirm. The support article says this removes temporary cache while retaining app sign-ins. Read the displayed control carefully rather than choosing a similarly named app-data action.
Once the operation completes, retry the original task. If it now works, preserve the rest of the viewing setup. Temporary files may be created again as apps are used, so a cache figure growing later does not by itself mean cleanup failed.
Remove an app only when intended
If space remains insufficient, open Settings, Apps, See all apps and select an app you no longer need. Google provides Uninstall there. Before removing a viewing app, check whether it contains local preferences or data you would want to recover.
An app license or remote account does not necessarily back up all local settings. Use the publisher’s actual export or synchronization documentation when that state matters. Do not present reinstallation as a universal restore method.
Verify a usable result
Check that the update or install finishes and that the main household player still opens. Keep credentials out of screenshots used to document the result. A storage screenshot can be useful without revealing a playlist or account page.
This procedure is a targeted platform cleanup. It does not claim to improve broadband speed, fix a bad programme source or measure app performance on hardware that has not been tested.
Questions answered
Does cache cleanup sign me out according to Google’s guide?
Google says its documented cache cleanup retains sign-ins. Make sure you select the cache control described.
Does clearing cache replace uninstalling an app?
No. One removes temporary data; the other removes the selected application.
