A dark screen can be an intentional listening state
Roku documents audio listening with the TV screen off on supported arrangements. Fast TV Start maintains the needed standby connection for supported audio and voice actions. This is different from a television losing its video signal during ordinary viewing.
Decide whether you want music without the panel, a voice-start action or another supported audio task. Identify the Roku TV and speakers involved; a generic Roku player should not be treated as having the TV’s standby features.
Check the power setting
Roku’s route is Settings, System, Power, Fast TV Start where supported. Its guide says enabling the feature uses more power than normal standby. Choose it for a useful listening function rather than describing it as a free energy-saving setting.
Follow the actual model’s instructions for turning the screen off while retaining audio. Screen-off and power-disconnected are different states, so use the supported control instead of cutting mains power.
Test both start and return
Play supported audio, use the documented screen-off action and confirm that sound remains at a comfortable level. Then restore the picture and check that ordinary navigation works. A usable listening arrangement includes a clear exit.
If attempting to start audio while already in standby, check the supported voice remote or other documented controller. A remote without the necessary feature cannot acquire it merely by enabling Fast TV Start.
Keep the result scoped
Record the TV, speaker arrangement and action used. If sound fails only after a different shutdown method, describe that state change rather than immediately changing service settings.
This page explains Roku’s documented standby behavior without measuring power use or certifying every app’s audio-only support.
