There are several listening paths
Roku documents Headphone Mode through a compatible remote headphone jack, built-in Bluetooth on supported Roku models or its mobile app. These are distinct routes. A phone paired to headphones and a Roku directly paired to headphones do not put the same devices in the audio path.
Identify the Roku model, remote and intended headphones. Check current support for that combination rather than assuming every Roku remote has a jack or every player has Bluetooth audio.
Prepare the selected route
For mobile-app listening, open the Roku app’s Remote view and use the headphone control according to Roku’s instructions. Keep the phone and Roku in the required connected arrangement. For remote-jack listening, use the compatible physical remote and verify the headphone plug.
Use the headphone maker’s procedure for Bluetooth discovery where that supported route is intended. Keep other previously paired devices from taking the connection during setup.
Check sound and timing
Play a familiar spoken passage and confirm the intended headphones receive it. Check comfortable level and whether the room speakers behave as expected. A headphone icon is only one status observation; listening establishes the practical result.
Roku provides an audio-delay adjustment in the mobile app for its documented route. Use that when the phone-mediated output is out of sync, rather than changing a programme subtitle offset that addresses different content.
Retain the route in your notes
Write down whether the phone, remote or Roku device carries the headphone output. This is essential when an issue appears only after changing headphones or moving from one route to another.
If the control is missing, review model support and the selected method. This guide does not claim that all Roku products or all Bluetooth headphones support the same listening features.
Questions answered
Does every Roku player support direct Bluetooth headphones?
No. Check the exact model and supported route.
Why does the phone matter in mobile Headphone Mode?
It is part of that listening path, so its connection and audio behavior are relevant.
