Prepare before travelling
Roku’s Hotel & Dorm Connect lets supported devices authenticate a public Wi-Fi connection through a phone or computer. It is a network sign-in handoff, not a replacement for activating the Roku device or signing in to a viewing app.
Roku recommends travelling with an activated device, its remote and power supply, plus the required display cable and a wireless phone or computer with a browser. Check updates and model support before leaving a working home setup.
Join the intended network
On the Roku, follow Settings, Network and the documented new-wireless-connection route. Select the accommodation’s actual network and choose the hotel or dorm option when offered. Confirm the network identity using the accommodation’s provided information.
Then follow the on-screen phone or computer steps. Keep network credentials and room details private. Do not substitute a random website or service login for the captive-network sign-in shown by the legitimate network.
Complete the timed handoff
Roku says the authentication window is limited. If it times out, choose Try again and restart the displayed process. A timeout does not mean the television account password must be reset.
After authentication, inspect the Roku network status and confirm the expected network name. Only then open the viewing app and test a short item. Network access and programme availability remain separate milestones.
Keep travel limits visible
Roku warns that connection results depend on the public network and that channels or content can differ by country. Completing Wi-Fi authentication does not override a provider’s availability conditions.
This guide explains the official supported-device workflow. It makes no promise about a particular hotel network, service catalogue or protected programme output.
Questions answered
Is Hotel & Dorm Connect the same as Roku activation?
No. It authenticates a captive network after the device is otherwise prepared.
What should I do if the handoff expires?
Roku provides Try again to begin the displayed timed process again.
