Separate edge loss from original picture shape
Samsung’s Picture Size settings offer choices such as 16:9, Custom and 4:3, with availability depending on the input signal. Fit to Screen also depends on the signal. A control being absent or unavailable is not automatically a television fault.
First decide what is wrong. Clipped interface corners suggest edge loss. Black bars on one wide film can preserve the original image. Stretching every source to the panel can remove bars while distorting faces and graphics.
Inspect the current input
Open Picture, Picture Size Settings using the route available on the TV. Note the selected input and existing choice before changing it. A television can behave differently for a tuner, built-in app and external HDMI source.
Use a source with visible borders or interface corners to judge whether the complete picture fits. Adjust only the controls offered for that signal. If Fit to Screen is unavailable, check the exact TV manual and input support rather than hunting for an unrelated app setting.
Compare a familiar programme
After the interface fits, play the programme that prompted the question. If it still has bars, compare whether any image is missing or distorted. The goal is the complete intended picture, not a universal requirement that every programme cover every pixel.
A player can also have its own crop or aspect choice. Keep that fixed while evaluating the television, then inspect it separately if only one app behaves differently.
Keep the correction local
Record the input, source type and picture-size choice that worked. Avoid applying another input’s setting blindly or resetting the whole television to solve one source’s formatting.
This page follows Samsung’s Gulf support example and its signal-dependent limits. It does not claim all European models expose the same controls or that a picture-fit change increases the video’s recorded resolution.
Questions answered
Should every film fill the whole panel?
No. Preserving the original image may require bars when its aspect ratio differs from the screen.
