Windows 11 Miracast: distinguish sending from receiving

Prepare the correct end of a wireless-display connection and use the supported Windows projection route.

Windows is an operating system

Label the two roles

In a wireless-display session, one device sends its screen and another receives it. Windows 11 can project to a compatible Miracast television or adapter using Windows key plus K. A second Windows PC can also receive, but needs its own preparation.

Name the sender and receiver before opening settings. Installing a receiver feature on the laptop you intend only to send from does not prepare the television or another PC. The direction of the task determines which instructions apply.

Send to a supported display

Turn on the display or Miracast adapter and enable its documented receiving mode. On the sending Windows PC, press Windows plus K and select the intended display. Follow any confirmation shown on the receiving screen.

Check the receiver name carefully in a shared office or accommodation. A list of nearby names is not proof that every device belongs to your room. Confirm the connection on the intended screen before presenting account pages or private messages.

Prepare a receiving PC separately

On a Windows PC that should receive, Microsoft documents Settings, System, Projecting to this PC and installation of the Wireless Display optional feature. The receiving app must be launched. Windows 11 version 22H2 and later use the Wireless Display app; older supported instructions may refer to Connect.

After preparing that PC, return to the sender and use Windows plus K. A sending control and a receiving application are complementary steps, not alternative names for the same operation.

Check the useful outcome

Start with an ordinary desktop and confirm the image appears on the chosen receiver. Then test the intended programme and its audio. A successful desktop projection does not promise every protected video app supports that output route.

If the receiver is absent, inspect Miracast support and receiving state before changing the viewing account. This guide describes Microsoft’s wireless-display workflow; it does not claim that every casting protocol or smart TV implements Miracast.

Questions answered

Is Windows plus K a universal Google Cast control?

No. This guide concerns Windows’ documented Miracast display route.

Why does another PC not appear as a receiver?

Check its Miracast capability, Wireless Display feature, receiving settings and launched receiving app.
