Criterion Channel: streaming, disc purchases and the linked login

A shared sign-in does not make a Criterion disc purchase and a Channel subscription the same transaction.

The Channel is a streaming product

The Criterion Channel is distinct from Criterion’s disc and merchandise store. A film can have a Criterion Collection release without currently being available to stream on the Channel. Use the actual current film page rather than treating the physical catalogue as a subscription list.

For a particular work, identify the release and the offered viewing route. A supplement, trailer or discussion can also be a separate item from the feature. Keep those versions intact when planning a viewing session.

Current sign-in linking does not combine billing

The official FAQ says Criterion.com and CriterionChannel.com accounts gained linked single sign-on from 24 September 2026 when their email addresses match. It also explicitly keeps billing separate. Older blanket advice that the logins are unrelated would miss that change.

A person can therefore use linked sign-in without having purchased every product behind it. A disc-store account is not proof of an active streaming subscription. Check the actual product and receipt when an entitlement is absent.

The published streaming territory is limited

The same FAQ describes the Channel as available in the United States and Canada. A film-culture article accessible in Europe does not establish that the streaming subscription is offered there. Editorial access and video entitlement are different things.

Do not use a global film list or a country flag page as a substitute for the stated territory. If a work is licensed through another destination, that individual programme route remains separate from the complete Criterion Channel service.

Use supplements as context, not a replacement title

The Channel’s editorial approach includes supplementary material and thematic programming. An interview or commentary helps explore a film but should not be mistaken for the feature itself. Read the item’s title and duration when selecting it.

For help, identify whether the issue concerns linked login, subscription billing, a missing work or playback of a recognised item. Keep private account information in the official route. This makes the current linked-account model clear without turning it into an unsupported all-products or worldwide-access claim.

Questions answered

Does a Criterion.com store purchase include the Channel subscription?

No. The linked login does not combine the separate billing or products.

Does every Criterion disc release stream on the Channel?

No. Inspect the film’s current streaming availability.
