The festival connection explains the editorial approach
DAFilms is powered by Doc Alliance, a partnership of European documentary festivals. Its curated programmes and filmmaker-focused selections provide context for discovery. A festival association is not a guarantee that every work screened by a partner is permanently in the online catalogue.
Use the actual film profile after browsing a special programme. Keep the filmmaker, title and version together, particularly where translated titles can make different works appear similar.
A subscription is not the only viewing route
The FAQ distinguishes subscription access, individual pay-per-view streams and purchased downloads. A viewer can therefore encounter a film that is offered without it being part of the current subscription selection.
Read the transaction label before choosing it. A rental stream has a viewing period; a downloadable purchase is another arrangement. The fact that both appear on the same documentary platform does not make their conditions identical.
Use language and subtitle information from the film page
DAFilms provides audio and subtitle information on each film profile and language filtering through advanced search. A subject category or national origin does not establish which translation is included in a particular version.
If subtitles matter, inspect them on the intended playback surface. The FAQ specifically cautions about subtitle support when casting. A computer playing the text correctly is not a complete test of an external receiver’s route.
Personal viewing differs from a public screening
The provider’s FAQ distinguishes home viewing from a public screening that requires appropriate licensing. A streaming subscription should not be assumed to grant a café, community cinema or event the right to exhibit the film publicly.
For an access or technical question, name the film, transaction type and device. For a public event, use the proper distributor or rights route. This keeps film discovery, private playback and exhibition permissions separate rather than extending one purchase into an unsupported use.
