An index record and its source are different places
The reviewed Public Domain Movies catalogue is operated by Tremeo GmbH. Its notice says the site links or embeds material hosted by Internet Archive and Wikimedia rather than hosting the displayed media itself. A film record is therefore a route to a specific source, not proof that every similarly named result refers to one identical file.
Start from the film’s full record. Keep its title, any alternate title and its source together. This is especially useful for older works whose posters, upload names and release-title variants can differ across collections.
Use the alternate-title clue before assuming two films
One reviewed record explicitly pairs Five Minutes to Live with Door-to-Door Maniac in its heading. That paired name helps a viewer recognise an alternate-title result. The record’s Movie Source identifies Internet Archive and also offers an other-version section.
Search using both names when matching a recommendation, then compare the actual record rather than count each title string as a separate film. Preserve the link to the chosen version so that returning to the film does not require guessing which of several similar search results you opened.
Compare versions before committing to a long viewing session
The reviewed record for The General has an Other Versions of this Movie section, including an entry labelled complete and clearer. That label is the uploader/index description, not a quality measurement performed by this guide. Its other-version links show why a title alone is not a complete record of the selected stream.
Open the candidate source and inspect the actual running time, language or accompaniment information it supplies. For a silent film, an interest in a particular presentation is a reason to keep the version link, rather than assume every upload gives the same viewing experience.
Keep identification separate from reuse rights
A catalogue called Public Domain Movies is useful as a discovery label. It does not resolve permission to republish a particular file in every country or verify the accuracy of every historical field. This guide identifies the site’s source and version controls; it makes no rights determination.
For ordinary viewing research, the useful output is a small record: film title, alternate title, chosen source and version link. That is enough to explain what you selected without copying a plot summary or relying on conflicting year text in an index.
Questions answered
Why does one record have two different film names?
The reviewed Five Minutes to Live record explicitly includes Door-to-Door Maniac as an alternate title.
Does a complete and clearer label mean this guide tested the file?
No. It is the index’s label. Inspect the selected source; no playback or quality test was performed.
