Rental, purchase or free viewing?

Four modes can share one application

Rakuten TV distinguishes timed rental, purchase, free on-demand viewing and linear live television. The application is the common interface, not a promise that every film follows one payment model. Begin on the title or channel you actually selected.

A free film supported by advertising is different from a newly offered rental. A live channel is different again: it has a schedule rather than beginning every programme on request. Identify the mode before deciding whether a price, advertisement or already-started programme is unexpected.

Read the rental’s own remaining time

Rakuten’s rental help distinguishes the period available to start a film from the shorter viewing window after starting it. Its current help also points to a countdown showing the remaining time. Use the information attached to the actual rental instead of treating all saved titles as permanent library access.

If you are not ready to watch, consider the effect of starting playback merely to check the picture. Keep the film and the account used for the rental together. A favourite or recommendation is not evidence that a paid rental window has begun or remains active.

Purchase access is governed by the actual service

Rakuten’s first-steps guidance explains the purchase option under its service conditions, including the role of continuing rights. Do not rewrite a Buy button as an unconditional promise detached from those terms. Retain the transaction and the purchasing account for any future access question.

This is a different issue from an ordinary playback fault. If the library shows the purchase but the film fails to start, record that state and the exact error. If the purchase is absent, confirm the account and transaction first instead of immediately changing the display or network.

Advertising and account requirements need context

The free catalogue and live channels are advertising-supported. An advert can be part of that mode rather than evidence that a paid rental has been mixed into it. Check which area of the app is open before comparing two viewing sessions.

Follow the current help for the device and transaction being used, including any guest-rental or registration route actually offered. A broad app badge is not enough to establish that every television, browser or phone has identical purchasing and playback controls.
