Find the current service behind an older name

Older television menus and search results may still say ZDFmediathek. ZDF’s relaunched streaming portal is the relevant current destination. The familiar older label does not automatically identify an unrelated service or require a new paid television package.

Begin with the programme’s own page and the actual playback option. A programme trailer, an individual clip and a complete episode can appear near each other. Keep the format and episode information with the title when deciding whether you have found the version you intended.

Local progress and account synchronisation differ

ZDF explains that some personal functions can work locally without login. An account is useful when you want the watchlist or unfinished programmes to follow you to another device. A programme remembered on a browser therefore need not appear on a television that has not been signed into the same account.

Check the intended account on both devices before treating missing progress as a video fault. Avoid deleting all local app data while the original device is the only place retaining the viewing position. Write down the episode and approximate position first if that information matters.

An ARD login is not every ZDF function

Current ZDF help describes an ARD-login route for personal functions such as the watchlist, continuing programmes and recommendations. It also distinguishes age release, which requires the ZDF account route. A successful linked login does not establish that every account feature has been completed.

This matters when ordinary programmes play but a protected item presents an additional step. Read the actual message and use ZDF’s own account controls. Do not send identity documents, account passwords or a personal verification link to an unrelated streaming contact.

A saved reference cannot extend a viewing window

A watchlist makes a work easier to find; it does not keep the broadcaster’s online rights active indefinitely. If a saved programme disappears, inspect the current programme information before assuming that the television lost a downloaded copy.

For a useful report, include the title, episode, device, whether you were signed in and the precise message. Distinguish a missing saved entry, a programme no longer offered, an age check and a video that opens but fails. These are different tasks even though all appear inside ZDF streaming.

Terra X and the paid ZDF select archive

ZDF’s Terra X FAQ points viewers to its public streaming portal. The documentary brand covers subjects including history, archaeology, nature and science. Search for the precise documentary and episode rather than treating Terra X as one video or one paid account.

ZDF Studios separately describes ZDF select as a paid supplementary selection for programmes unavailable or no longer complete in the public portal. It includes the Herzkino, Krimi, tivi select and Terra X brands and names external distributors including Prime Video. A public ZDF account does not establish this separate paid archive access.

If an older recommendation points to a missing episode, inspect its actual public-portal page first, then compare any named paid offer on its own terms. The package description does not reconcile ZDF Schatzkiste or establish that every historical separately labelled channel shares one membership and episode list. A saved watchlist cannot extend a public viewing window.
