CAF Champions League

Four groups of four produce eight quarter-finalists

CAF’s completed 2026/27 group draw places sixteen qualified clubs in four groups of four. The top two clubs in each group advance to the quarter-finals. That is a group-specific qualification boundary: third in one group cannot be promoted by comparing its points casually with a club in another group.

A draw graphic identifies the assigned group, rather than the final order within it. Four familiar badges shown together mean those clubs will contest the group programme. Their order on a presentation screen should not be read as a provisional league table or an already secured path to the last eight.

The same opponent appears home and away

Orlando Pirates’ official draw explanation confirms that every club faces its three group opponents at home and away. Three opponents multiplied by two meetings produces six group matches for each club. The return meeting is part of that group programme; it is not automatically the second leg of an aggregate knockout tie.

Keep the host and date when selecting a replay. A home meeting and an away meeting can share exactly the same two club names. A hypothetical group win in November does not settle the later away fixture, and an earlier preliminary-round recording can involve a different competitive situation even if the names look familiar.

Six matchdays extend across the season boundary

CAF’s season calendar places the group matchdays between late November 2026 and January 2027. The schedule starts with the weekend of 27–29 November and lists three matchdays in each calendar year. A January recording therefore remains part of the 2026/27 edition rather than automatically belonging to a new competition season.

The calendar gives matchday windows, which are broader than individual kick-off appointments. Use the club’s confirmed fixture notice for its exact date and venue. If several group games occur during one weekend, a round-up is a different production from the complete match involving the club you follow.

A draw stream and a live match are separate programmes

The club’s October draw notice directed supporters to CAF TV on YouTube for the draw itself. That is evidence of a route for the pairing ceremony at that date. It is not a statement that every resulting Champions League match is available on the same platform in every country.

For a complete viewing request, name CAF Champions League, the season, group or knockout round, both clubs and the actual meeting date. Retain the broadcaster’s current territorial and programme notice. A generic Champions League label can otherwise lead to a UEFA or AFC event, and a draw archive does not provide the match action.

Questions answered

Is a return group meeting automatically an aggregate second leg?

No. It is another match in the group programme; keep the group and date with it.

Does the draw’s CAF TV route establish all live match availability?

No. The cited route was for the draw ceremony. Check the selected match’s current viewing notice.
