Competition identity

The continental finals have eight clubs
CAF’s October 2026 guide confirms eight clubs in the Women’s Champions League finals in Egypt. The field includes the defending champion, the host-country champion and representatives from the regional routes identified by CAF.
The continental field is therefore not the full list of every club that entered a regional qualifying competition. A regional result and a continental finals result belong to different stages of the route.
Regional tournaments have their own groups
For example, COSAFA’s 2026 qualifier had eight clubs drawn into two groups of four. That format describes the southern African qualifying event. It must not be mistaken for the final continent-wide field simply because the regional event also uses Women’s Champions League branding.
A hypothetical club can win its regional event and then begin a new continental group campaign. Its regional points are not carried into the new group as a head start. Keep the competition phase beside each table.
The finals group winners and runners-up reach the semifinals
CAF’s published finals programme has two groups of four. The top side of Group A faces the runner-up of Group B, while the top side of Group B faces the runner-up of Group A. Those cross-group pairings produce the two finalists.
A hypothetical club finishing second can still win the continental title if it wins the subsequent deciding matches. Second is a qualifying group outcome rather than a final second-place tournament award. Conversely, a group-stage lead is not yet the championship.
Third place and the title are separate final-stage matches
The semifinal winners contest the final, while the defeated semifinalists have a third-place playoff in the published programme. These matches have different purposes and should retain their actual stage labels.
A semifinal defeat therefore ends the title route but does not necessarily end every match for that club. That distinction explains why a team can appear again after losing without the competition having a full double-elimination bracket.
A continental title provides a further international route
CAF and FIFA describe the 2026 champion’s place in Round Two of the FIFA Women’s Champions Cup 2027. That is a separate intercontinental club competition, not another CAF group game or the national-team Women’s World Cup.
As checked in November 2026, this guide explains the published route without inventing the eventual 2026 champion or treating every named club as a confirmed participant in the later FIFA phase. Use completed official results for that status and the correct competition regulations for a deciding match.
