Competition identity

Commonwealth Games 2026

One Games programme includes distinct events

Commonwealth Sport’s official closing report says Glasgow 2026 staged forty-seven medal events across six fully integrated Para sports. The report discusses their final titles as part of the completed Commonwealth Games programme. This establishes integration within these Games, rather than a separate later Games archive.

Integration does not make every event the same contest. Sport, discipline, event and any published category remain necessary parts of the result. Two finals can contribute to the same Games programme while having different fields and winning conditions. The common Games identity links their records without erasing those distinctions.

Sports and medal events are different counts

Six Para sports and forty-seven medal events are not incompatible totals. A sport can contain multiple medal events. The sport count measures programme categories; the event count measures the competitions that award the medals described by the organizer. Do not divide the totals and assume every sport must contain an equal number.

In an original miniature programme, imagine sport A has four events and sport B has six. There are two sports and ten events. A graphic showing “two sports” is not claiming that only two finals occur. The same counting distinction explains why a compact multisport programme can still produce many different medal presentations.

Keep the category attached to the result

The closing report names specific Para Bowls and Para Track Cycling events. Those full labels identify the contests being reported. A shortened note that removes the category can make two different results look as if they competed for the same title.

A useful personal results row contains Games, sport, full event name and medal result. Copy the official category label accurately without trying to derive an athlete’s medical circumstances from it. The category is sporting context for the result; it is not a diagnosis or an invitation to compare performances across unlike events as though their conditions were identical.

Integration describes the programme, not an extra medal multiplier

An event’s inclusion in an integrated programme does not create an additional medal result merely because it also belongs to a Para-sport grouping. In an original spreadsheet, one winning result can be tagged both “Glasgow 2026” and “Para sport” while remaining one event result. Tags are classifications, not additional victories.

This guide uses the completed August 2026 organizer report. For exact medal totals or a particular final score, use the relevant official result rather than inferring it from the programme count. The key viewing distinction is between the whole Games, the sports within it and the separately named medal events within those sports.

Questions answered

Does six integrated Para sports mean only six medal events?

No. The organizer records forty-seven medal events across those sports.

Does tagging a result as both Commonwealth Games and Para sport create two medals?

No. Those tags describe the same event result from different grouping perspectives.
