ILT20 Season 5: ten matches per team make thirty league games

Understand the difference between one ILT20 team’s fixture count and the competition’s total match count.

Fixture time versus programme time

Competition identity

International League T20

A fixture belongs to two team lists

ILT20’s 7 October 2026 Season 5 announcement specifies ten matches per team in a double round-robin, a 30-match group stage and a four-match playoff phase. Those are different counting scopes. Adding every team’s list without adjustment counts each league match twice.

The organizer’s stated format corresponds to six teams each meeting five opponents twice. Six lists of ten give 60 team appearances; dividing by two gives 30 actual matches. The arithmetic explains the published totals without inventing an extra set of fixtures.

Repeated opponents need distinct match records

In a double round-robin, seeing the same two teams together again is expected. It does not by itself prove that a programme is replaying their earlier meeting. Distinguish the two actual league fixtures by their official record rather than deleting one because the club names repeat.

As an original filing example, place A versus B once in the opening part of a season ledger and their other meeting in its later confirmed position. Keep results separate. A victory and a defeat against the same opponent are two league results, not automatically a tied knockout contest requiring an aggregate winner.

The league total excludes the title route afterwards

The announcement gives four further playoff matches after the 30 league games. A whole-tournament count can therefore be 34 while a summary of the round-robin correctly says 30. Neither total is an estimate of the number of matches one club must play.

A team’s later total depends on its qualification and path. Do not assume every participant receives four extra games simply because the playoffs contain four matches overall. Keep a personal team ledger separate from the whole-tournament match count: both can be accurate while showing different totals.

The venue count is another independent total

The same organizer announcement allocates fifteen tournament games to Dubai, eleven to Abu Dhabi and eight to Sharjah. Their sum is thirty-four, matching the announced entire competition rather than only its thirty league fixtures. A venue planner and a league-stage planner are counting overlapping but different slices of the event.

That does not mean each venue has an equal share or that each team plays the same number of games in every city. The full published schedule is needed for that distribution. Arithmetic can verify that the aggregate allocation reconciles, but it cannot invent individual team placements absent from the announcement.

When preparing a personal calendar, count actual fixtures once even if they appear on both a team page and a venue page. Two records describing the same match are discovery routes, not two sporting events. This distinction is useful on double-header days, when separate matches really do coexist and need their own identities.

Questions answered

Why not multiply six teams by ten and call it sixty matches?

That counts both participating teams’ appearances in each game.

Does thirty include the playoffs?

No. The announcement separates thirty league games and four playoff matches.
