The 2026 format uses four rounds; individual event scores, team scores and season points are separate leaderboards.

LIV Golf

The ordinary event is now seventy-two holes

LIV Golf moved its ordinary events to four rounds and seventy-two holes for 2026. The league’s updated format page confirms that change. A three-round, fifty-four-hole description belongs to the earlier structure and should not be copied into a current 2026 guide.

Four rounds describe the planned sporting format. They do not establish a fixed television programme length or guarantee that every event will run without weather or operational changes. Use the event’s official status for interruptions.

Individual stroke totals decide an event

The player with the lowest score after the stipulated event wins the individual contest, subject to any required deciding procedure. A score relative to par is not the same as a number of season points.

For a hypothetical example, rounds of 68, 70, 67 and 69 total 274 strokes. On four par-seventy-two rounds, that is fourteen under par. Those figures describe one event; they should not be added directly to a season ranking expressed in points.

All four team scores count in each round

The league’s format explanation says every team counts all four players’ scores in each round. That approach began in 2025 and continues in the cited 2026 structure. A strong individual result can therefore sit alongside a different team outcome.

Consider a hypothetical round with team scores of 68, 70, 72 and 75. The team total is 285. Dropping the 75 and reporting 210 would apply the wrong counting method. A team graphic can show the combined score while an individual graphic shows only one golfer.

A shotgun start changes where players begin

The field starts in groups on different holes at the same time. A player’s first hole of the day is therefore not necessarily hole one. A leaderboard can show a player through nine holes without identifying the same course position as another player also through nine.

This affects how to follow a finishing sequence. Someone starting away from the first tee may complete the round somewhere other than the eighteenth green. Use the player’s actual starting hole and scorecard, rather than assuming everyone finishes on eighteen.

The individual season and Team Championship have their own outcomes

LIV’s published 2026 format uses points for the season’s individual standings, with that championship settled after the thirteenth event. The concluding Team Championship is separately described with match-play and elimination elements. Do not apply an ordinary event’s stroke-total explanation to every part of that finale.

For a specific question, identify the leaderboard first: individual event, team event, individual season or Team Championship. That resolves many apparent contradictions without inventing a conversion between strokes and points.

Questions answered

Is the current 2026 ordinary LIV format still fifty-four holes?

No. The league moved to seventy-two holes over four rounds.

Can the lowest individual scorer be on a team that does not win?

Yes. Team scoring combines the four players’ scores.

Does every player begin the round at hole one?

No. A shotgun start uses different starting holes.
