World RX archives and the 2026 Euro RX transition

Understand why an old World Rallycross mark does not identify an unchanged world championship in 2026.

Saved marks, current questions

Competition identity

World Rallycross Championship

A saved mark can describe a previous structure

FIA’s September 2025 announcement described the top rallycross category returning to a European championship in 2026 and proposed a separate global World Cup. Its wording made approval a condition. Later official calendar material confirms the 2026 European championship and a distinct World Cup listing.

The historical World Rallycross Championship name therefore needs an archive context. Keeping a genuine saved logo is compatible with explaining its period accurately. Reusing it as though the old world-championship structure continued unchanged would merge separate competition identities.

Approval changes the strength of the statement

The later European-calendar announcement explicitly follows World Motor Sport Council approval. The approved-calendar page separately lists the European championship and Rallycross World Cup. That lets an explanation distinguish an earlier plan from the later approved structure without guessing that every detail in the first announcement became permanent.

For an original archive example, label an older race by its historical World RX season. Place a 2026 Euro RX result under the European championship and a World Cup result under that separate event. Their common sport does not make them rounds in one invented global points table.

Compare the right titles

A World Cup and a multi-round championship can both carry international significance while remaining different competitions. A driver’s result in one cannot simply be appended to the other’s standings because the same cars or familiar names appear.

When a programme uses abbreviated RX branding, recover the organizer’s complete event identity before describing the title at stake. The distinction here is competitive structure, not a promise about a feed or a route around geographic restrictions. Review future FIA announcements before applying the same naming explanation to a later season.

An archive should store the title as well as the abbreviation

For an original three-row catalogue, keep an older World RX round, a 2026 European championship round and a 2026 World Cup item as three records with their full competition names. A shared RX keyword can help find them, but it is a search tag rather than evidence that they contribute to one standings table.

This matters when a saved mark outlives a competition structure. The mark can remain an authentic historical asset while its surrounding caption explains the period it represents. A new title does not retroactively rename every old result, and an older title does not override a later approved calendar. Retaining season, complete title and event scope makes the relationship clear without discarding the history or treating a proposal and an approved programme as equally final announcements.

Questions answered

Did the old World RX identity remain an unchanged 2026 world championship?

No. FIA documented a European-championship transition and separate World Cup.

Was the first September announcement already unconditional?
