Read EDUbox’s 2068 news bulletin through its assumptions

Use VRT’s future-literacy resource to examine what a fictional bulletin assumes about food, choices and change.

Keep the future date inside the exercise

VRT’s January 2026 announcement for EDUbox Toekomstgeletterdheid describes an exploration of possible food futures that includes a fictional news bulletin from 2068. Its distant date belongs to a learning scenario. The exercise is designed around multiple possibilities rather than one fixed future.

When watching, first identify what the fictional world assumes has changed. This might concern a way of producing food, a social choice or a technology mentioned in the scenario. Write down the assumption before deciding whether you welcome or dislike its outcome. Otherwise, a strong reaction can hide the conditions on which the story depends.

Ask what would have to be true

Choose one claim within the fictional bulletin and work backwards. Which resources, decisions or habits would have to exist for that outcome to make sense? Which parts are stated by the resource, and which are your own additions? Mark your additions as proposed assumptions rather than evidence from the video.

Then change one assumption and discuss how the scenario might change. The purpose is to explore consequences, not to calculate a validated probability. Two different scenarios can both be useful even when the exercise supplies no basis for saying which is most likely.

Identify the viewpoint in a future image

VRT’s description also asks learners to consider the interests behind images of the future, including those promoted by companies, policymakers and influencers. Apply that question to the image or statement in front of you. Who benefits from its proposed arrangement, and whose experience is difficult to see?

Keep this discussion tied to the scenario. A fictional portrayal does not establish that a real company has made a particular promise or that an institution has adopted a policy. Use attributed real-world evidence for those claims rather than filling the gap with the educational fiction.

For a final response, give the scenario a conditional description: if these choices and conditions hold, this is one outcome the exercise explores. Then identify another plausible set of choices worth discussing. VRT’s package combines text, videos, tasks and an interactive tool, so the bulletin is a starting point for that reasoning rather than a standalone prediction to memorise.

Questions answered

Is the 2068 bulletin a report about an event that has happened?

No. VRT explicitly describes it as a fictional bulletin within a future-literacy exercise.

Does exploring several scenarios assign them probabilities?

No. The published description supports comparing possibilities and assumptions, not numerical likelihoods.
