An equipment check can delay entry
Law 4 prohibits jewellery and says covering it with tape is not permitted. A substitute being checked beside the field may therefore have an equipment issue to resolve even while otherwise ready to enter.
Imagine a player covering a ring with a strip of tape before reporting to the fourth official. The tape can make the item less visible on television, but it does not change the jewellery requirement. Removal is the relevant action.
Do not infer a transfer problem from a touchline wait
A close-up of an official speaking to a substitute tells you very little about the cause. It could be the equipment inspection rather than uncertainty over the player’s identity or the coach’s instructions. Watch what is being checked and whether an item is removed.
The example concerns a sporting equipment rule, not medical guidance about taping or injury. Other accessories have their own conditions, so a covered non-jewellery item should not automatically be classified from appearance alone. A useful explanation names the actual item and the rule being applied. That is more precise than treating all visible tape as either banned or a blanket permission.
