Ninety minutes can lead directly to a shoot-out
Under the 2026 UEFA Super Cup regulation, a draw after normal time is settled by penalties without extra time. That is a competition-specific decision. Expecting the additional two periods simply because another cup uses them would misread this event. Stoppage time still belongs to normal time; it is not the same thing as extra time.
Imagine that normal time ends 2–2. The next deciding contest is the shoot-out. A viewer returning after a short break could therefore find penalties already underway rather than an extra-time opening. The rule explains that sequence without predicting how long the whole television programme will last.
Keep two results on the record
A hypothetical display of 2–2, with 5–4 on penalties, contains two different measurements. The first is the match score. The second records successful kicks in the deciding shoot-out. Adding them into a fictional 7–6 football score erases the drawn match and makes highlights difficult to interpret.
For a clear personal note, write “2–2; team A won the shoot-out 5–4.” That preserves both the football played before the whistle and the method used to award the trophy. A penalty kick during the match would instead be included in the ordinary match score.
Why the title alone is insufficient
Super Cup is a competition name used by several organizers. This procedure belongs to UEFA’s 2026 edition; it should not automatically be copied into a national super cup or CAF event. A familiar phrase on an archive tile does not establish a shared rulebook.
The useful question during a tied match is therefore which competition’s deciding rule applies. Once that is established, the apparent absence of extra time becomes straightforward. The source verifies the procedure, while the scores above are invented examples to demonstrate how to record it.
A short replay can still contain a complete contest
The absence of an extra-time segment is not evidence that a replay has omitted thirty minutes. In this competition’s cited format, there are no such periods to show after a normal-time draw. Judge completeness against the actual deciding procedure rather than against the sequence expected from another final.
Equally, a clip containing only the shoot-out is not the whole match merely because it includes the trophy-deciding action. It leaves out the drawn football that made the shoot-out necessary. Describing it as shoot-out highlights tells the reader exactly which competitive unit the recording contains.
If a results graphic displays a winner prominently above the ordinary drawn score, read both fields together. One identifies the trophy winner, while the other preserves the score before the shoot-out. Neither field needs to be corrected to match the other. They answer different questions within one completed event.
The practical benefit is a cleaner record: normal-time score, deciding method, shoot-out score and winner. It is enough to explain the result without constructing a fictional aggregate, borrowing an extra-time score from elsewhere or assuming that the longer club competition has awarded another title.
