Target selection is the critical decision
Formuler’s USB guide asks users to back up important data and disconnect other USB accessories before formatting. That narrows the target and reduces confusion between similarly named storage devices.
Check the chosen drive’s name and capacity, then physically separate any drive that must remain untouched. A generic “USB storage” label is not a reliable identity when several devices are connected.
Read the operation as well as the target
Follow the current model’s documented removable-storage format route. Read the confirmation carefully: formatting erases data and is different from ejecting, browsing or clearing an app cache.
Keep the selected drive connected while the progress runs. Formuler’s guide asks users to wait for the completion message. An operation beginning successfully is not the same as finishing.
Verify the new storage state
After completion, confirm that the box recognizes the intended drive and test a small authorized file if local media is the task. Reconnect other accessories afterwards and check that the normal viewing setup still works.
This procedure is about storage preparation, not a claim that every player has been configured for recording or that a formatted drive proves rights to save a programme.
Questions answered
Why disconnect other USB accessories?
Formuler recommends it before formatting; it also makes the intended target clearer.
Can I unplug when the progress bar appears?
Wait for the documented completion rather than treating the start as the end.
